Well, to make life easier on yourself, just get Pro Tools. It does cost a bit, but not too much, and it is second to none in terms of editing, etc. It is used by the best of the best, and it’s by far the most important and best value-for-money thing I’ve ever bought. Plus, it’s not designed for any genre. I use it for metal and acoustic stuff, but a friend of mine is a rapper and he swears by it! He also swears by Reason by Propellerheads (heck, I do to!), as it has a good drum machine, an amazing loop player, and some very impressive synthesizers. And, what’s more is that you can control Reason through Pro Tools, so that they work perfectly in sync.

Oh, and the quality of the stuff you get out of it? Impeccable.

I do recommend one more thing though. If you decide to go down this route, I HIGHLY suggest doing a short 2 or 3 day course on the basics of Pro Tools (or Reason, or both). They’re very cheap to do, and before you know it, people will ask you to do some recording for them, and eventually they’ll pay you too! (It happened to me!)

So, if you just want to make beats, and just mess around rapping over them, just get Reason. If you want to record your material, get Pro Tools aswell.

fruity loops software. get either xl7 or xl8 you can not only make your own tracks, but you put your tracks online and there is a program where if someone listens to it they have the option to add something to it. i think that it is called collab. as far as stuff needed, aal you will need is a laptop or desktop that will be compatible with the software. BUT BE PATIENT!!! there will be a lot of stuff you can do on it.
